AI Search Glossary

Schema Markup

Schema markup refers to structured data that uses the Schema.org vocabulary to describe the content of a web page — its type, properties, and relationships — in a format that search engines and AI systems can read.

In detail

Schema.org defines hundreds of types (Organization, Article, Product, Event, FAQPage, etc.) and their properties. Structured data can be embedded in HTML using JSON-LD (recommended), Microdata, or RDFa. AI search engines use schema markup to read entity facts accurately, enable rich results in traditional search, and improve citation accuracy in AI-generated answers.
